WHAT TO WEAR DURING THE ADVENTURE TRIP (OUR SUGGESTION)

You should wear light, loose-fitting, cotton clothing for our treks and tours. Short-sleeved shirts and light-weight trousers are ideal. Long, light trousers are a good idea since shorts leave your legs exposed to insect bites and scratches, but do bring a pair along for other times. Halter tops (necks) and hot pants are discouraged. Thai and mountain people are offended by tight and overly revealing clothing.

The best footwear are sports shoes or walking boots, worn with cotton socks. A hat is advised for the tropical sun, and sunglasses are certainly a good idea. Bring a few changes of clothing, especially if your tour includes rafting. Evenings and early mornings can be surprisingly chilly in winter – even sometimes close to freezing (or at least feeling that cold!) in December and January, so bring a sweater, socks, and a casual jacket, windbreaker (cheater), or anorak.

MALARIA
There is no malaria in our tour area and guests are advised not to take any malaria prohylaxis, pills, or medicine. We have never had a guest get malaria.

HEALTH & DISEASE ISSUES
Sanitation and hygiene standards in Thailand are high, so the chance of disease is quite low. Medical facilities in Chiang Mai and other cities are excellent and inexpensive. It is, however, a wise precaution to be vaccinated against hepatitis, typhoid, polio and tetanus. Malaria is now fully eradicated in our tour areas, so there is no need for any anti-malarial medications or prophylaxes.

The most common problem is diarrhea. This usually only lasts one or two days, and is generally a reaction to the change of climate and diet. Immodium or a similar medicine is fast acting and effective, and quite safe to take for a day or two. Charcoal tablets are a very effective, natural remedy, and are available everywhere. Most of our guests never even have this problem, due to our attention to hygiene and cleanliness, and the quality and freshness of our food.

We do supply a medical kit, but you may wish to bring iodine, cotton buds and band aids (plasters) for possible cuts and scratches. Dehydration can be a problem in the heat. Oral re-hydration solution is excellent at replacing lost electrolytes, and can be bought at any pharmacist. However, this can easily be avoided by drinking plenty of water.

Sunscreen is advised to prevent sunburn, which can easily dampen an otherwise fabulous holiday.

Bear in mind we are talking about worst-case scenarios here - the vast majority of our visitors have a trouble-free, healthy, and happy holiday!

INSURANCE
We are fully insured for accident or misadventure. We do strongly advise our customers to have their own insurance as well, since claims can be complex and time consuming for you otherwise.
